Until then, the only place it was possible to complete an overtake was the 1.2km straight. Before the controversial 2021 title showdown happened, the changes were in place. As opposed to the 5.5km, 21-corner circuit it used to be, it\u2019s now a 5.2km, 16-corner layout. Turns 5 and 6 were a left-right chicane leading into Turn 7, a narrow hairpin. Unlike other tracks with open exits, the one in Yas Marina dips under the circuit through a tunnel. It\u2019s stayed the same over the years despite drivers calling it dangerous. The other changes to the track have worked to some extent, though.
